Allow time in Chiapa de Corzo beyond boarding a boat. Its plaza, craft traditions and local food make it a place to explore rather than just a transfer point.
The details that change the day
Ángel Albino Corzo airport (TGZ) is outside central Tuxtla. Sumidero river departures and the canyon’s road viewpoints use different access routes. Confirm the pier, transport back and current route conditions with the operator.
Heat and seasonal rain affect canyon outings. River trips may change with conditions, and road viewpoints are a separate visit. Check current Chiapas travel advice before committing to transfers.
Ask the boat operator about lifejackets in children’s sizes and sun cover. Keep the day realistic in the heat. Verify steps and toilet access before choosing a river excursion for someone with limited mobility.
