America, one scenic drive at a time.
This directory brings together the Federal Highway Administration’s America’s Byways listings and selected scenic drives and regional road-trip ideas. It covers U.S. travel only and includes routes in all 50 states.
Some entries describe an entire designated byway; others focus on a road section or a longer regional journey. Routes can overlap. Counts describe directory entries, not a count of every unique road or every scenic route in the country. Multistate entries appear under each relevant state.
U.S. portions of cross-border routes
The Haines Highway and International Selkirk Loop entries are limited to their U.S. portions. The Alaska Marine Highway ferry system is not included as a scenic road. Historic Route 66 is presented as selected U.S. alignments across eight states, rather than as one continuously driveable historic highway.
Current conditions
Reference lengths come from the FHWA listings where available; detours and side trips can change the distance. No live travel times, tolls, opening guarantees or booking availability are stored here. Check official sources for the exact route and vehicle you intend to use.
