Irvine

Parks, wetlands and an Orange County base

Irvine is an inland Orange County city with several distinct visitor areas. The Great Park, the San Joaquin Marsh and shopping-and-dining districts are separate destinations, so a satisfying visit begins by choosing a part of the city rather than trying to cover it all.

Choose an outdoor focus

The San Joaquin Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary is a place for a quiet walk and bird observation. Great Park offers a different experience, with recreation, arts and scheduled activities. Check the individual attraction’s operating details, especially if a particular ride, exhibition or event is the reason for going.

Connect a park with a city stop

A short outdoor visit can pair with dining or shopping, but the distances between Irvine’s districts make the transfer part of the plan. Quail Hill is another trail starting point; select a route suitable for the weather and your group rather than treating all trails as interchangeable.

MAKE IT YOUR JOURNEY

Plan your visit

Irvine can work as a base for several Orange County outings, but it is not a beachfront town. Pick accommodation according to the places you intend to visit and compare actual travel routes. For a short visit, choose one park and one food or shopping area. Check trail opening notices and allow for heat on exposed inland paths.
