OUR AUSTRIA GUIDE · AMERICAN TOUR ASSOCIATION
From a printed plannerto the Austria worth discovering.
The American Tour Association began in 1989 with a simple purpose: to help tour operators create memorable journeys. Its founder, Manfred K. Wallner, was operating tours in Texas when he began seeking places beyond the familiar stops. His travels in Mexico helped shape an approach that still guides our work: make room for the unexpected.
That curiosity grew into printed tour planners, destination research and a collection of travel ideas reaching well beyond the United States. Today, our online guides help tour operators, individual explorers and families discover places around the world.
Austria is a particularly personal part of that story. Manfred was born in Payerbach and grew up in Pernitz. This guide brings together celebrated Austrian destinations and the smaller discoveries that give a journey its character.

Beyond the postcard.
Vienna’s grand streets, Salzburg’s old town and the mountain scenery deserve their place on an Austrian itinerary. But leave time for village cafés, woodland walks, local museums and the people who make each valley distinctive.
Our Austria guide connects the nine federal states with practical ideas for day trips and longer stays. Around Pernitz and Gutenstein, explore the Myra Falls, discover the rock arch at Luckerter Stein, or plan family time at Fuchsriegel. Follow our local guides for details and choose outings that suit your companions.
Travel with a local connection.
Independent accommodation, welcoming inns, regional food and local attractions make the journey richer. Our linked guides bring together places to explore, eat and stay, with direct contacts where available so you can make arrangements with the people who know their destination.
Whether you are planning a group tour or a family holiday, use these pages as a starting point. Follow your curiosity, allow time for a detour and discover an Austria that reaches beyond its best-known sights.
From a mountain village to a quiet valley, your next Austrian discovery may be closer than you think. Choose a place, take your time—and enjoy the journey.
I wish you a fun filled and exciting journey. Stay Safe!
