Luckerter Stein · Pernitz

A doorway made by nature.

A striking rock arch, open pine woodland and a view toward Pernitz. Discover a small natural landmark with a presence far greater than its size.

A remarkable detail in the landscape

Pause where the hillside opens.

Near the edge of Pernitz, Luckerter Stein forms a broad natural arch on a hillside. The surrounding open pine woodland, heath and dry grassland give the place its particular character, with views toward the town and valley.

It is the kind of discovery that rewards a closer look: the shape of the arch, the contrast between stone and trees, and the way an ordinary walk can suddenly reveal something unexpected.

A place to notice the smaller things.

Leave time to look at the woodland as well as the rock. The local nature-watch group describes vegetation adapted to dry conditions, including pasqueflowers. Keep to established paths, leave plants undisturbed and enjoy the natural monument without climbing onto the arch.

Photographs can be memorable from a secure position. Choose a spot where you can stand comfortably, pause before using the camera, and give other walkers room to pass.

Choose the approach thoughtfully.

A narrow, exposed approach. A March 2026 Alpine Club outing report describes a short, narrow path with steep drops on both sides near the landmark. This calls for sure-footed walkers who are comfortable with exposure. It is unsuitable as a casual pushchair outing.

Choose a route that matches everyone in your party, check weather and ground conditions, and ask locally about access before setting out. Turn back if the approach feels uncomfortable.

For a relaxed outing with younger children, our Fuchsriegel page offers a woodland playground alternative.
