The old town
Explore Marktgasse and the streets within the old town, looking for arcades, fountains and historic gateways.
Visitor information & arrangements ↗Vorarlberg · Local discoveries
Arcaded streets, towers and the Schattenburg give Feldkirch a strong medieval character, with everyday life continuing around the historic façades.
Feldkirch invites exploration at street level. Arcades, fountains and gateways make the old town a rewarding place for a slow walk, with Marktgasse providing a natural starting point. Look above the shopfronts as well as into them, and leave time for a café or a quiet side street. The Schattenburg adds a different perspective from above, with a museum visit that deserves its own time allowance. Back in the centre, St Nikolaus and the town’s cultural programme offer further choices according to your interests. This is a place where a small plan can work well: one principal visit, a walk through the historic streets and enough room to stop when a building, view or lunch menu catches your attention.

One full day, or two nights as a Rhine Valley base.
Choose one main visit and allow for travel, a meal and a slower local chapter.

Use Feldkirch station and plan the short onward trip to the old town. The Schattenburg stands above the centre; account for the uphill approach.
The town’s lanes make one outing and the castle another. Ask the museum about steps and access before combining them for a visitor with limited mobility.
Check the museum and any guided town walk separately. Castle dining can have a different schedule from museum visits.
Arrange lunch or dinner in the old town or ask directly about the castle restaurant, particularly for a group.
