Royal Gorge, Colorado
Location
Description
The extremely narrow and high Royal Gorge was cut by the Arkansas River which flows through it.
A suspension bridge crosses the chasm over a thousand feet above the water. When we visited the bridge was closed to cars but open to pedestrians.
There is also a cable-car across the gorge.
An incline cliff railway runs from the rim down to the river.
There are a number of other items of interest.
A railway line runs through the gorge alongside the river. In one place the gorge is so narrow that the railway tracks have to be suspended above the river using an A-frame construction.
